The Tennessee 2025

During the summer of 2025, we floated the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers, meeting musicians and writers and artists of all stripes, and working together to create an audiovisual variety show called The River Signal Radio Hour.

The show was broadcast live every Saturday night, and you can watch replays below. For songs and stories by individual artists, check out our YouTube page.

Aug 23 — Live from Nashville, TN

On Saturday, August 23, we recorded our finale while motoring into downtown Nashville at sunset. This show features songs and stories from The Montvales, Minton Sparks, Teddy Lee Wilder, Brooks Lustig, and the River Signal crew.

Aug 16 — Live from Seven Mile Island, TN

On Saturday, August 16, we nosed into a quiet, shady creek behind Seven Mile Island, and as the sun set and the cicadas sang, we recorded our penultimate show, featuring music from Ziona Riley, Nathaniel Riley, and Teddy Lee Wilder.

Aug 9 — Live from Land Between the Lakes, KY

On Saturday, August 9, we found ourselves on a remote stretch of river, and so we decided to do something a little different: we recorded a whole show featuring only our three intrepid crew members.

Aug 2 — Live from the Beech River, TN

On Saturday, August 2, in a muddy little cove on the Beech River in the far west of Tennessee, we recorded another show, featuring music by Caleb Elliott and Morgan Jones, with both artists accompanied by guitarist Austin Motlow.

Jul 26 — Live from Muscle Shoals, AL

On Saturday, July 26, in Cypress Creek, just across the way from legendary Muscle Shoals, Alabama, we recorded a rollicking variety show featuring music by Doc Dailey and Susan Rowe, Jrnl, Morgan Jones, and Wanda.

Jul 19 — Live from Honeycomb Creek, AL

On Saturday, July 19, in a cove off Honeycomb Creek, we recorded a show featuring music by Wanda from the Wanda Band and Colibeja, along with poetry by Kimberly Casey and Maya Webster. Due to a surprise rainstorm and a cornucopia of tech glitches, we weren’t able to pull together a full live broadcast, but here are some of the performances from the evening:

Jul 12 — Live from Chickamauga Creek, TN

On Saturday, July 12, in our adopted home of South Chickamauga Creek, TN, we recorded the second half of our Chattanooga doubleheader, featuring poetry by Cynthia Young, fiction by Paul Luikart, and songs by Colibeja, the Jennifer Daniels Band, Kate Neal, and Teni Rane.

Jul 11 — Live from Chattanooga, TN

On a balmy Friday night, on the pea-green waters of South Chickamauga Creek, TN, we recorded a special Friday show, featuring poetry by Christian J. Collier, nonfiction by Brian Benson, and songs by Colibeja and Call Me Spinster.

Jul 5 — Live from Eureka, TN

After our first full week out on the river, we motored into a quiet cove in Eureka, TN, and beside a bog full of chatty frogs, we recorded a live show. This episode features writing by Brian Benson and songs by Calla Burke and Mike Jones.

Jun 28 — Live from Knoxville, TN

After a long drive down from Massachusetts, we dropped the boat in the water in Knoxville, Tennessee, and a few days later, we recorded a show while motoring through downtown Knoxville. This episode features writing by Beau Morgan and Katie Myers, and songs by Lazarus Lake and Jacks Willie with Nick Bailey.

Jun 21 — Live from Turners Falls, MA

Just before towing the boat down to Tennessee, we had a goodbye party / working-out-the-kinks broadcast in Turners Falls, Massachusetts. The show featured writing by Jhani Randhawi and Teo Rivera-Dundas, and songs by Rita Nelson, Rivkah Gevinson, and Natalie Padilla with Jake Grieco, Jake Marrow, and Russell McCumber. Here are some of the highlights from our kickoff show.
